Whether you’re new to the game or a seasoned veteran, it’s all too easy to make mistakes when selecting a new product to work on. For instance, I’ve started several projects over the past two years. None have taken off, but I’ve had my fair share of failures. Looking back, I can see that I might have done better if I had been more rigorous and consulted a proven framework before launching each one. ...
Pin
Many apps have a “Pin” feature, which I frequently use in Google Keep and WeRead. I use Google Keep for temporary notes. When I come across an interesting quote while reading, have a sudden idea during a meeting, or hear an intriguing thought from a friend, I quickly jot down a few words. Later, when I have time, I review these notes—deleting those that no longer seem relevant, or expanding and archiving others that warrant further development. The notes I pin are usually those I consider important and want to address within a day or two. ...
Come! Let's Chat
My colleague gave me a box—it’s a SUSS project called Come! Let’s Chat. It’s a beautifully made box containing cards, photos, and other materials. The elderly can use this toolbox to play a mini-game that helps improve their social skills and build friendships. Here are my thoughts: It could be more cost-effective to use a printer to print all the materials. The project could be open-source, with all resources available on the web and GitHub so that everyone can use and improve it. The game could be made simpler. For example, we could remove the complicated colors and pucks and instead use a die to decide who draws a card by counting the numbers. Official release: ...
The Pensieve
When I read this passage in Harry Potter, what came to my mind was that this could be a way of innovation: thinking deeply, extracting meaningful information, and putting it together. Observing carefully to discover patterns and connections. NotebookLM seems to be a product that does exactly this, and I want to build one too. ‘This? It is called a Pensieve,’ said Dumbledore.’ I sometimes find, and I am sure you know the feeling, that I simply have too many thoughts and memories crammed into my mind.’ ...
A 20-Year-Old Small Company
Today is Chinese New Year’s Eve, and it also happens to be the 20th anniversary of our company - our official date of incorporation was January 28, 2005. I wanted to jot down a few thoughts this morning to mark the occasion. The Beginning of the Journey At the time, I was in Shenzhen and Glacier was in Beijing. We were both working in jobs where there were a lot of things that we felt were unreasonable and that we wanted to change. During a phone conversation, we decided to give it our all for another three months, and if we still couldn’t make a difference, we would start our own company to see if we could create something we really liked. ...
Love, Simplicity, and Long-Term Effort
A friend recently shared an interview with Kobe Bryant, where he explained why he started training at 4 am. You wake up at 3, train at 4. 4-6. Come home, eat breakfast, relax. Now you’re back at it again 9-11. Relax … Back at it again, 2-4. Now you’re back at it again, 7-9. By year 5 & 6, it doesn’t matter what kind of work they do in the summer - they’re never gonna catch up. ...
My new blog at GitHub
This is my first time writing a blog in English. Although I’ve been writing for over 20 years, it has always been in my native language. From now on, I’ll aim to write something on this blog every week. Sometimes, I’ll write in my native language and use tools like ChatGPT and DeepL Writer to translate it into English. Other times, I’ll write directly in English to practice. I’ve decided to use Hugo to build my blog, and I’m publishing my writing on GitHub. Let’s get started. ...
